2018 Tour

What is it?

The DeKalb County Barn Tour is a one-day driving tour of barn sites within DeKalb County hosted by the DeKalb Area Agricultural Heritage Association, Inc. and the JF Glidden Homestead & Historical Center. Participants will receive a map guide book containing hand-drawn sketches of each barn as well as the barn's history, style and use. For an additional price, five-year anniversary books will be available. Participants drive to each location in any order for a tour of the barn(s), including many interiors. Purchase your event ticket at any of the eight locations. Be aware that this is an outdoor activity that may involve walking on uneven ground. Admission is $25 per vehicle (buses extra) (museum members receive a $5 discount).

What are the locations?

Stop 1: Rollo Town Hall

2266 Suydam Rd, Earlville

      Activities: Purchase your tour ticker at this location (or at any barn site), picnic shelter,        playground, restrooms. The town hall is open to tour.

      Lunch option from Red Home Farm - Featuring Grass Fed Beef (additional fees)

Barn 1: H&J Svendsen Farm

1760 Whitman Road, Earlville

      Activities: Access to upstairs hay loft in barn

      Hay lifting demonstration -- weather dependent

      1956 tractor on display

       Fresh market vendor with maple syrup and garden ornaments (additional fees)

Barn 2: Goble Round Barn

240 South Paw Paw Road, Earlville   - - Octagon Barn

      Activities: Meet barn sketch artist David Alan Badger and get your guidebook autographed!

Barn 3: Sandford Barn

1508 Earlville Road, Earlville

      Activities: "Big Boy" hand crafted wooden train model displayed.

       Purchase raffle tickets here. Tickets will also be available at each Barn location during         the tour on August 11.

Barn 4: Willard-Kern Farm

       Activity: Lunch option of hot dogs and chips served by the Kern grandchildren (additional fees)

Barn 5: Callison Family Farm

5228 West County Line Road, Paw Paw

Activity:  Vintage/Antique Shop - In Barn (additional fees)

Barn 6: Quinn Farm

2029 Sleepy Hollow Road, Earlville

      Activities: Try milking Maggie the fiberglass cow provided by the DeKalb County Farm          Bureau

      Examine a 19th century check-row planter

      See the child-size replica of the barn on display

      Pick up a souvenir at the tote bag vendor (additional fees)

Barn 7: C & A Svendsen Farm

1698 Hyde Road, Earlville  - - Octagon Corn Crib & Barn

      Activities: All ages are invited to take part in a Barn Raising activity of a 1/6 scale                  model of a 3-bay post and beam barn. This activity is hourly on the half hour starting at        9:30 am. Presented by Dennis Buck, Heritage Interpreter at the Forest Preserve                    District of DuPage County's Kline Creek Farm.  This activity takes 20 - 30 minutes.

      Hay lifting demonstrations will take place throughout the day

Barn 8: Sanderson Farm

5783 Sanderson Road, Leland  - - Active Pig Farm

       Activities: See another method of hauling hay into a hay mow. 

       Enjoy the antique farm equipment on display

       View a 1907 corn crib with corn stored on the cob

Buses are welcome on the tour. It is $5 per person and comes with complimentary
